Our Story

Green’s Feed and Seed has deep roots in West Virginia, beginning in 1963 when Earl and Shirley Green opened the original store on Washington Street in Charleston. But Earl’s journey started even earlier—as a dealer for Altman’s Feed Company in 1949. When Altman’s closed in 1963, Earl and Shirley launched Green’s Feed and Seed, laying the foundation for a business that would become a staple in the community.

In 1977, the B&O Railroad offered Earl the land where our Charleston store still sits today. The business grew steadily, expanding into a 15,000-square-foot building by 1992. Though the store was briefly sold to Southern States in 1998, Earl bought it back in 2001, determined to preserve his family’s legacy. Together with his son Mike and grandson Mike Jr., Earl continued to serve customers until he and Mike retired in October 2021.

The store was then passed on to a team of passionate entrepreneurs committed to honoring the Green family’s hard work while expanding the brand’s vision. What began as a single feed store has since grown into a family of businesses across West Virginia and Ohio. Today, Green’s operates multiple locations—including Charleston, Big Chimney, Ripley, Sissonville, Point Pleasant, and Parkersburg, WV, and Gallipolis and Pomeroy, OH—with plans for continued growth.

Under the Green’s name, we now offer a wide range of services through Green’s Supply Depot, Green’s Building Products, and Green’s Outdoor Creations in Charleston, WV; and Green’s Equipment Group in Charleston, Parkersburg, Ripley and Sissonville, WV, as well as Gallipolis and Pomeroy, OH. 

Our extended family of brands also includes Riverfront Powersports, Kubota of Ripley, Thomas Do It Centers, Thomas Rental Center, and Spring Hill Rod & Gun.
